The brief was to portray a hive-mind sensibility, brought to life by synapse-like energy pulses-- an ambient sound that filled the space in warm and rich way, a futuristic sensibility but not overly sci fi-- strange and quirky, but not too spooky.
I responded with a humming and thrumming backdrop, plus sizzling and flanging electrical static to mirror the energy pulses. A brief and simple melody stayed safely in a friendly, chiming major to keep things from getting overly scary. I wanted to retain a bit of sharpness to evoke both wasps and electricity, but the soundscape kept getting too jagged so I found myself continually going back to smooth the edges off. I thought it should have a balance between pretty and noisy, like a My Bloody Valentine track.
