Film Update: MSPIFF, Big Ears Festival, Portland Underground Film Festival And More

The 2017 Minneapolis/ St Paul International Film Festival hosts two films featuring my work this year: Cable Hardin's animation "Infestation" (tonight!) and the world premiere of the short documentary "Boomtown".

INFESTATION: A creepy-crawly animation by Cable Hardin that explores a decidedly man vs. bug dynamic, Infestation showcases my voiceover perfoemance, Foley, ambient field recordings, sound edit, and mix. Screens as part of Shorts 10 on Tuesday, April 18th at 7:10 PM. More info + tickets

BOOMTOWN: A documentary by Robert Bryant and J.David LeCompte, Boomtown examines the lives of the Cassorla brothers, who run a fireworks shop in rural Nevada. Features original music, sound edit and mix by yours truly. Screens as part of Shorts Program 11 on Sunday, April 23rd at 7:10 PM. More info + tickets

An experimental documentary by Kevin Obsatz including my original music, sound design and mix, Deux Champs screened April 7th and 8th at the Portland Underground Film Festival, and in March as part of the Big Ears Festival at Tennessee's Knoxville Museum of Art.

Bobby's Run Off is a drama written and directed by John Kaiser, described as "part film noir, part sad country ballad." Featuring my sound edit and mix, the short screened at the Speechless Film Festival in March, and will appear as part of the Sioux Empire Film Festival in May.

Involving dust, wind, plague, and demonology, Ordinal (SW/NE) is an experimental documentary by R. Yun Keagy. I provided original music, Foley, sound design and mix. The film screened Thursday, April 6th at the Viking Theater at St Olaf College.

Much ballyhooed in these pages elsewhere, the award-winning horror short Shear Madness, to which I contributed sound design and mix, will screen at the South Dakota Film Festival in September.

"Gonna Put You On The Shelf": What Jen's Been Saying In Her Sleep, March 2017

Largely aimed at me this month, with alternating encouragement, low-level hostility and accusation.

"We're just going to pretend that you're actually there... for tomorrow and the next day."

Jen: "That's like your whole job... Got some places to go."
Me: "Where's that?"
Jen: "Not gonna tell you right now. One thing at a time... Hair free... Yeah. Seems OK... You finding out some stuff? That sounds good."

Jen: "I think you can do it. I think you know how to do everything you need to do. Just write it down. You're not going to remember it... Gonna sign up. Put your name on the list and then [unintelligible] will call you."
Me: "Who?"
Jen: "I'm not going to explain this. Get ready... You'll get it right. You're good at that. Sometimes you just need a little push."

[Something about "a boat for you..."] "You're just over there all the time... that's all you do... you hang out over on the other side there. You don't do a lot of different things. You're usually over there."

Jen: "Put you on the shelf."
Me: "What would I do there?"
Jen: "What do you do here?"

"You live in two different countries."

Jen: "Gonna drool on you. Maybe someday you'll get your own."
Me: "My own what?"
Jen: "Everything you need."

"I haven't been talking to you or about you."
